Expanding Prison Education Opportunities at Southeastern Community College

Veronica Powell was recently promoted from Director of Transitional Studies to Associate Dean of Transitional Studies and Prison Education at Southeastern Community College. In this role, she is working to strengthen partnerships with Tabor Correctional Institution and Columbus Correctional Institution.

Her leadership focuses on expanding educational opportunities for incarcerated learners, including high school equivalency preparation and workforce training. One initiative includes launching an associate degree program in Audio and Video Production Technology for incarcerated students.

Powell’s work also focuses on addressing barriers students face when continuing their education. Through research and program development, she continues to expand opportunities that help learners gain skills and prepare for successful reentry into the workforce and their communities.
