77-Year-Old Graduate Proves It’s Never Too Late to Learn

Alamance Community College (ACC) proudly celebrated the remarkable achievement of Margaret Pudo, who earned her High School Equivalency diploma at the age of 77. Originally from Kenya, Margaret came to the United States, learned English, and pursued her lifelong dream of completing an American high school education.

In June, Margaret walked across the stage to receive her diploma, cheered on by her proud family—including eleven grandchildren who attended the ceremony to celebrate her milestone accomplishment.

“Margaret’s journey is a powerful reminder that education has no age limit,” said Jennifer Mock, Executive Director of College and Career Readiness at ACC. “Her determination and success inspire our students, faculty, and community alike.”

Margaret’s instructor, Paige Rans, praised her student’s persistence, noting that her success reflects the spirit of adult education.

ACC’s adult educators are equally inspired by their students. “My favorite part of being an adult education instructor is meeting students where they are and respecting the life experiences they bring to the classroom,” said Rans. “In many ways, these experiences challenge me as I become the student and they become the teacher.”
