Presented By:
Amy Van Oostrum-Engler
, Adult Educator and PhD. Student, North Carolina State University

Target Audience: All College and Career Readiness Directors and Instructors

Description: Despite our best efforts, many students struggle with reading comprehension due to underdeveloped foundational skills like fluency. This session explores Helping Early Literacy with Practice Strategies (HELPS), a one-on-one fluency intervention proven effective with children and currently being studied in a tutoring program with adult learners. Because very few fluency interventions exist for adults, participants will benefit from this session by learning both about this particular tutoring intervention, to address the foundational reading skill of text fluency, in addition to the empirically supported strategies that compose it.

Take part in the third session in our webinar series to learn about this evidence-based intervention, including its components (timed reading, retell, modeling, error correction, goal review), study results to date, and how it fits within adult literacy research.

When you receive the email confirmation of your registration, please be sure to add the webinar to your calendar.

If you do not immediately receive the automated email confirmation, please check your junk folder. The email will come from logesd@nccommunitycolleges.edu.
